Hackers accessed data of 7 million Robinhood customers


Criminals stole the data of almost a third of Robinhood brokerage clients. The company reported that traders suffered no financial losses as a result of the database hack. 

According to the online broker, the hack occurred as early as 3.11.2021. The criminal hacked the database through the support service, convincing the manager to give him information to access the department’s systems. In the hands of the attackers got E-mail addresses of 5 million traders and full names of 2 million users of the trading platform. In addition, the hackers got access to the names, personal accounts and emails of about 300 investors. The broker claims that the data on bank accounts and insurance policies remained inaccessible to the criminals. 

The hackers demanded a ransom from Robinhood. The case was investigated by the cybercrime unit. Following the news, the company’s stock price dropped to $35.6 as of 10:00 a.m. Moscow time.
